A Winners CreedMany years ago, Brian, a friend of mine and fellow cricket coach, coached a team that repeatedly won the season's matches and the final for their age group all the way from under 11's to under 16's. Why did this happen? Were his players better built or better coached or better coordinated than all the other teams they played? The one thing different that Brian did was to instill a self-belief in the boys that they could win and that they can make it happen. The week before each final he would hand out the following poem "A Winners Creed" and make the boys read it at night each night as the last thing they did before going to sleep. They approached each final with self-belief and encouraged each other and reinforced each other's belief in themselves as positive individuals and as a positive team. They played as a team and expected to make themselves win and so they did because "Life is a self fulfilling prophecy". A Winners Creed If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don't; If you'd like to win but think you can't, It's almost a cinch you won't, If you think you'll lose, You're lost; For out in the world we find Success begins with a person's will, It's all in the state of mind. Life's battles don't always go To the stronger or faster hand; But sooner or later The person who wins Is the one who thinks "I can". Anon These days almost every coach of every sport knows the importance of training the mind to believe in success. Let me also state that over the many years of dealing with business people the same philisophy holds true. If you really want success then you must believe in yourself and believe that you might be a success. The truer the belief and the better you strive for that belief the more successful you will become. Success is very much dependant on your state of mind. This is why mentoring is so important - retrain your mind to achieve and you will. Virtually any person wiill benefit from some presonal mentoring on how to do better. Virtually any business will benefit from mentoring on how to do better. |
